ARMM brings frontline services with People’s Day in Al-Barka
BASILAN – News about Al Barka, Basilan are often about terror and conflict, but the regional government of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is taking the lead in changing the municipality by providing basic social services and government assistance to the grassroots.
In its latest effort in the municipality, the regional government brings ARMM’s People’s Day to Al Barka on Monday, March 27, in coordination with the Basilan regional government.
“We want to ensure that residents in Al-Barka have access to all the vital services and assistance from the government,” ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman said.
The People’s Day in Al Barka will feature various modes of assistance from a number of frontline agencies under the regional government. This includes the Departments of Health, Labor, Social Welfare and Development, and Education, along with the regional office of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
The services include a children’s feeding program, library construction, medical check-ups, circumcision, and job fair. The regional government will also bring its mobile clinic out in the field for the first time in Al Barka.
ARMM governor Hataman said their aim is to free Al Barka from banditry and poverty by guaranteeing the delivery of government projects in the town.
“The people here deserve quality government services, and we are bringing it in,” he said.
“We want to replicate what happened in Barangay Baguindan in Tipo-tipo here in Al-Barka, and this is what we are doing now. We want to bring the ideal governance to the barangay level,” Hadjiman “Jim” S. Hataman-Saliman, the governor of Basilan, said.
Last year, a similar People’s Day event was held in barangay Baguindan in the neighboring town of Tipo-Tipo.
The ARMM People’s Day is a monthly activity that serves as an opportunity for the regional line agencies and offices to offer and render their frontline services to the people of ARMM. Agencies are using this platform as an exposure to actualize their objectives and goals in pursuit of an improved and effective service to people. (Bureau of Public Information)
