RG Hataman’s Mesaage on the Celebration of Eid’l Fitr
The blessed month of Ramadan has always been a time for quiet reflection and determined action as we submit ourselves to the boundless grace and mercy of Allah. We commit ourselves to days of patience and restraint as we commit to our fast, and we commit ourselves to nights of remembrance and gratitude and as we pray without fail.
As we celebrate Eid’l Fitr, we find joy and fulfillment in the strengthening and renewal of our body and spirit. As we celebrate, we also share our newfound wholeness by continuing to serve the people, the underserved and underprivileged, especially those who have been affected by either drought or flood these past few months, and those who have lived in poverty and conflict for decades.
The gift of inner peace also comes in this most blessed time as we end a month-long struggle to overcome the weaknesses and imperfections that comes with our humanity. May this inner peace transcend ourselves and manifest itself in the lives of others. As we are humbled by our experiences and become more forgiving of faults, we hope to continue engaging our brothers and sisters in discourse and debate, hoping to rise above the many challenges we currently face as a nation.
As we celebrate Eid together with the rest of the country – in solidarity with Filipinos of various faiths and beliefs – let us remember that our strength as a nation lies in recognizing our diversity, in recognizing the values we share, and recognizing the rights and freedoms we fought for together.
Let us celebrate the common threads that unite us as a people and reinforce our collective responsibility in building a strong nation, as we continue to pursue sustainable development and lasting peace in the region.
